Fruit growing

The agricultural-veterinarian school „Svilajnac“ has  6 hectares (14.81 acres) of fruit seedlings. Many of the leading fruit sorts can be found, along with the newly bred perspective ones. For the needs of the ministry of agriculture, the school has experimental seeds, amongst which there are many new sorts present.

The curriculum and program of the fruit growing department is realized completely thanks to these plantings, because they represent a necessary learning aid.

Students master the skills of pruning, protecting and harvesting fruit. The erected plantings contain different types of plums, apples, pears and sour cherries. All of them are irrigated using a „drop by drop“ system and are found on the school estate „cair“. There are 77 breeds of different fruit: apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and gooseberries.

All of this has significantly contributed to the students acquiring great practical knowledge and education in the field of fruit production.
